Departments and Schools attend Health and Safety Short Course

Monique Muller (Chemical Safety Officer for Chemistry & Chemical Engineering) presented Chemistry’s UCT accredited SHE Representative Laboratory Safety Short Course on 13 February. It took place on Upper Campus in the PD Hahn building, home to the UCT Chemistry Department. The thirty four registered attendees came from various departments in the Science, Engineering and Health Sciences faculties as well as from external instances including High Schools such as Paul Roos Gymnasium, Rhenish Girls’ High School and Edgemead High School. The course covered Health and Safety legislation, duties of the health and safety representative and the committee, hazards in the laboratory environment and how to identify them as well as how to conduct risk assessments.
