Project title: Assessing the gender gap in career progression amongst healthcare workers in the Eastern Cape

Project description: Despite increased labour force participation and policy attention to gender equality, women continue to experience pay gaps and slower career progression globally and in South Africa. Existing research often relies on cross-sectional analyses of gender pay gaps, overlooking how inequalities accumulate throughout the employment lifecycle. This longitudinal study will analyse ten years of employee administrative data from the Eastern Cape Department of Health using multilevel mixed-effects models to examine gender differences in pay across employment stages, cadres and sectors.
