The recent UCT Science Postgraduate Showcase saw our energetic SRC reps, Ibiye Dagogo and Adrien Ndamyabera, overseeing a beautifully set up and colourful stand aimed at showing all who stopped by what postgrad life in the department is all about and to encourage undergraduates to take their studies further and apply to join our large and lively Chemistry postgraduate community.

Aspiring students were given assistance from career/research advice to information on funding opportunities and how to go about making it happen.  Volunteers fielded questions on our research areas in synthetic & medicinal chemistry, biophysical and structural chemistry, chemistry education, transition metal chemistry and supramolecular chemistry.

Our Safety Officer and unofficial photographer-in-residence, Ms Monique Muller, created some beautiful photographic montages for the stand depicting life in the department - from students hard at work in the various labs and write-up areas, to shots of the equipment and instruments which keep staff and students endlessly busy and happy as they monitor their various experiments.

Adrien and Ibiye were ably assisted throughout the day by Nikechukwu Omosun, Razan Hassan, Hana Bawa, Larnelle Garnie and Olaolu Fadeyi.

The department is indeed fortunate to have a diverse and talented body of postgrad students who are willing and happy to pay it forward and help ensure the replenishment of students into the highest levels of study in their field.  Thank you to Ibiye, Adrien and the team who helped make it happen!
