Young Chemists shine at YCS 2018
The SACI/RSC Young Chemists' Symposium is an annual gathering of Chemistry postgraduates from tertiary institutions in the Western Cape during which they have an opportunity to present their current research. It is also a wonderful chance for students to network and establish connections with their peers across the province. Participants hailed from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Stellenbosch University, the University of the Western Cape, as well as from UCT.
The event is made possible through sponsorship from the South African Chemical Institute and the Royal Society of Chemistry.
This year was UCT's opportunity to host the event, which took place on Friday 6 April in the PD Hahn building. Postgrad students Nolwazi Gcwensa, Jess Nel and Godwin Dziwornu took on the challenge of organising the event - from getting out the calls for abstracts, scheduling the posters and presentations, right through to organising the catering and making sure the venues were set up correctly.
The department was abuzz from early in the morning till well into the afternoon and the energy from the participants was felt throughout the department - a happy end to the week!
