Radiogenic Isotopes, Geochemistry, and Petrography of Archaeological Ceramic Raw Materials in the Atacama Desert (Northern Chile, South América).
Research interests: Petrography, Geochemistry, and Radiogenic Isotopes of Archaeological Materials
This study integrates three analytical approaches to examine small ceramic fragments, the most abundant yet often overlooked archaeological material in the Atacama Desert. It proposes an analytical sequence to incorporate previously discarded ceramic fragments as valid samples through petrographic analysis, trace elements, rare earth elements, and radiogenic isotopes. Some findings challenge pre-Hispanic ceramic typologies and provide analytical confirmation of vessel circulation and pottery knowledge exchange between the Andean Altiplano and the desert Pampas.
