In September 2016, the telescope was put together for the first time at the Optical and Infrared laboratory at ASTRON in Dwingeloo. We obtained with the first light images by placing the telescope on a temporary Dobsonian mount, initially with a simple digital camera, but a few days later with the actual MeerLICHT CCD camera.

In January 2017, the telescope, its counterweight and the CCD camera were installed on the MeerLICHT telescope mount at Radboud University in Nijmegen. The full integrated system will be tested on-sky during a number of clear nights in February 2017.
