Clive Oliver hails from Grabouw, a small town outside of Cape Town, South Africa and completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Cape Town. He completed his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Mino Caira at the University of Cape Town in 2004, followed by a Claude Leon postdoctoral fellowship under the supervision of Prof. Len Barbour (2005-2007). In 2007, he returned to the University of Cape Town to start his independent research career. In 2018, he was a Visiting Scholar at Northwestern University in the group of Prof. Chad Mirkin. He is currently the president of the South African Crystallographic Society (2021-), has served as the secretary of the special interest group on Molecular Structure and Chemical Properties of the European Crystallographic Association (2015-2021) and is currently a council member of this organization. Outside of Chemistry, Clive enjoys spending time with his family, playing his guitar and watching athletics.
