Overview

The research projects involve the design and synthesis of new organometallic and coordination compounds with applications as catalysts, medicines and as new materials:

CATALYSIS

Catalyst synthesis for:

  • Polymerisation/oligomerisation
  • Hydroformylation
  • Carbonylation
  • Oxidation
  • Carbon-carbon cross-coupling

Catalyst testing:

High pressure autoclaves

MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY

Synthesis of new:

  • Anti-malarial drugs
  • Anti-cancer drugs
  • In vitro and in vivo testing
  • Structure-activity relationships of drugs
  • Radiopharmaceuticals

MATERIALS CHEMISTRY

Design and synthesis of:

  • New polymers (organic and inorganic/organometallic)
  • Metallodendrimers

The research in the group accommodates students with interests in all areas of chemistry and provides students with a broad training in small mononuclear molecules, polymers and dendritic/polynuclear complexes (materials synthesis), and characterization techniques. Many of our projects are interdisciplinary in nature. Thus, projects can involve both synthetic chemists, medical biochemists and through collaboration, industrial researchers.
