iOrnithology: How online images are reshaping ornithological research

"iOrnithology" is a term coined by Connor Panter, a PhD researcher at the University of Nottingham, and the Fitz's Associate Prof Arjun Amar in "iOrnithology: A review of the use of web-sourced photographs and videos in ornithological research", published in the latest issue of the journal, Ibis. The term is defined as the use of online images and videos of birds to extract ecological data for ornithological research.
They conclude that "iOrnithology" is a fast-growing field that is helping researchers answer questions that, through fieldwork alone, would have been challenging or impossible.
